The Yorkton Terriers grabbed five of a possible eight points on the week and remain in second spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Sherwood Conference.

The Terriers have a record of 26-19-2-3 for 57 points, 11 points off the Division-leading pace of the Weyburn Red Wings who have 68.

Melville sits third with 55-points, but also hold three games in-hand on the Terriers.

Estevan is fourth with 51 points, followed by Notre Dame with 37 and Kindersley with a league worst 24 points.

The Klippers have the worst record in the Sherwood Conference and it showed at the Farrell Agencies Arena Friday night, where the Terriers won by a 6-1 margin.

The first period was scoreless.

In the second Curtis Oliver and Jeremy Johnson scored for the home team.

In the third, Johnson popped his second of the game with Jamie Vlanich, Zak Majkowski, and Brady Norrish adding singles.

Kody Thue had the Klippers lone goal midway through the third.

Warren Shymko faced 24-shots in earning the win in the Terrier net with Huston McDonald was bombarded with 40 in the loss for Kindersley.

The Klippers played in Melville Saturday, losing 7-1, and then Sunday returned to the Farrell Agencies Arena.

Five-minutes into the game it looked like another romp for the Terriers who jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by Kyle McLeod, Vlanich and Zak Majkowski.

The Klippers took an early time-out after the goal, and the tide changed.

Sam Rockwell would add a fourth Terrier goal in the first period, while Troy Gedny and Colby Daniels replied for the Klippers.

In the second Bradley Buckingham and Beau Stewart would tie the score for Kindersley.

The teams would play through a scoreless third, and the five-minute, four-on-four extra frame would settle nothing, sending the game to the shoot-out, where the Klippers completed their comeback win 5-4.

Kale Thomson faced 22-shots in the loss, while McDonald faced 41 in the win.

Terrier head coach Trent Cassan was not particularly pleased by his team's effort Sunday.

"We just took a lot for granted," he said adding it seemed the Terriers expected the Klippers "to just hand us two-points and jump on their bus and go."

Cassan said it wasn't like they had not talked about being ready for every game.

"You have to give all your opponents the respect," he said, and that means giving an effort to win.

For a large part of the game Sunday, the Terrier effort was missing.

"We wouldn't shoot the puck when we were in tight areas," he said, adding the Terriers were trying for the extra pass and missing chances.

When it came to checking the team seemed content to poke check rather than use the body.

"For whatever reason we seemed to go a lot of different directions," said Cassan.

Cassan said the troubling part is that after a lacklustre performance against Melfort on home ice, a 3-0 loss to the Itech's cellar dwellers, he thought the team had addressed its effort.

"How many lessons do you have to take?" he asked.

Even at the Klipper time out Cassan said he tried to reinforce the idea of effort. He said he reminded the team "we don't just win a game in a span of five-minutes," he said.

Cassan said in general the Terriers have "had a lot of good efforts" this season, but they do need to recognize they need that every night to be truly successful.

Road split

Last Tuesday (Jan. 24), the Terriers were in Nipawin were the Hawks ripped them with a 4-1 win.

The teams were scoreless through 20-minutes, with Eliot Peterson breaking the dual shut-outs with a Nipawin goal 31-seconds into the second period.

Tyler Giebel tied the game for the Terriers before Ryan Ostertag gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead late in the frame.

In the third Darius Cole and Wheaton King added two more for the host team to round out the win.

Kale Thomson took the loss in the Terrier net facing 31-shots, while Davis Jones had the win for Nipawin turning away 38-of-39 shots.

A night later, the Terriers were in Flin Flon for action against the Bombers.

Curtis Oliver scored the only goal of the opening frame to give Yorkton a 1-0 lead.

The second saw the teams trade scores, Brady Norrish for Yorkton, and Riley Storzuk for the Bombers.

A goal by Brandt Weldon 14:17 in the third tied the game, and eventually sending it to overtime.

In the four-on-four extra frame, Chase Norrish would score a 3:54 to give the Terriers a road win.

Warren Shymko was in the Terrier nets for the win facing 29-shots.
