The Central Chaos nine man junior football team wrapped up their spring/summer football exhibition season with a pair of games on Thursday, June 19 at the Sacred Heart football field.
The Junior Chaos took on Melville in their first game and, led by a vice-like defence, shut down the opposition offence in a 12-0 victory that head coach Scott Musqua felt was one of their better efforts so far. "The boys started strong and they finished strong," mentioned Musqua. "Our quarterback Louis Shin made a couple of nice passes and a couple of the kids played really solid on the defensive side of the ball as well that helped us win."
Game two was a different story, however, as the Junior Chaos were in tough against a tough Moosomin Generals team, who not only were much larger than the Chaos, but also had twice as many players available to them.
Although they were outmanned, outweighed and outgunned, Central proved they weren't outworked, generating some good offensive pushes and strong defensive stands, including holding the Moosomin offence at bay with not one but two stands on the one yard line to prevent a Generals touchdown.
Unfortunately for Central, however, young quarterback Louis Shin threw a pass from the end-zone that was picked off by a General linebacker, the second interception thrown by Shin in the game, which eventually resulted in the third and final touchdown for Moosomin in Central's 22-0 shutout defeat.
And while both of Shin's interceptions eventually came back to hurt the Chaos, Musqua believes that it's not a big problem. After all, spring football is about working on skills and improving abilities for fall football. "Really, the main goal for the spring league is to get kids playing football, get them experience and prepare them for the fall season," offered the Chaos head coach. "Louis threw a couple of interceptions but we aren't going to say that's a bad thing because at least he's making the attempt to make the throws.
"If you don't practice the passes in game situations you're probably not going to get better at it and I think Louis got better and better as the game went on. He's getting more confident, getting better snaps and it's good to see him improve."
Musqua also mentioned how great it was to see so many fans at the game supporting the kids, despite the conditions being less than adequate.
The Junior Chaos weren't the only Chaos team in action on the weekend. The Central Senior Chaos travelled to Moosomin for a game of their own on Saturday, however they were only able to get three quarters in as the skies opened up and hail put an end to their final game of the exhibition season.
