The disc golf course in Yorkton was officially unveiled last Saturday morning at Patrick Park as the course designer made a trip back to his hometown to help out.

A handful of people came out to see the course and give the game a try. It's also prompted the City to look into putting together a disc golf men's/women's club for anyone interested in starting up a weekly disc golf night.

Brian Dudar, parks and arena manager for the City of Yorkton, picked a pretty good day to show off the course, which includes nine holes and he said they are still looking to add to it in the near future.

Joe Hunt, who is originally from Yorkton, came back for introduction to disc golf clinic on June 11, in which the game was well-received.

The game is good for families as well as individuals who are looking to get out for a quick break.

Playing nine holes takes less then 45 minutes and there is no cost to play. As well, the course never closes.

The course layout was mostly his work and both he and Dudar said the sky is the limit for ideas now that the basics have all been completed.

There is now talk of setting aside a day of the week when anyone interested can come play as a team/group and hopefully have a lot of fun with it.

"We will try to establish a disc golf club," says Dudar, adding that it would be "similar to a men's golf club".

He added that he is now looking for someone to start it up. "It's always nice to golf with a group."

As for Saturday's clinic, Dudar claimed that it was "excellent". Noting that all ages came out, including younger kids, older adults and they seemed to have fun with it.

"We're still looking at a night game, too," he said.

What impressed both he and Hunt about Patrick Park is the layout, it's flat enough that you can usually spot the hole quickly and there are plenty of trees all over which can make it interesting. He says he thinks the sport will pick up in no time. "Throw one disc and it's like 'wow'," he said.
