On Saturday, Nov. 5, twelve members and supporters of the Good Spirit Cross Country Ski Club (GSCCSC) gathered at the shelter on the Trans Canada Trail in Good Spirit Provincial Park. These volunteers worked to prepare the trails, the shelter and the washroom for winter use by skiers.
The park staff, with guidance from park superintendent Brian Dudar, had previously cleared deadfall and mowed approximately ten kilometers of the ski trails.
During the clearing and cleaning spree, the crew of workers put the ski club’s equipment to good use cutting, splitting and stacking the provided wood.
The shelter and washroom were given a good cleaning by the work party.
In the weeks following the Nov. 5 work, the ski club volunteers cut seasonal growth along the wet spots along the trails. Once sufficient snow arrives the volunteer groomers and track setters will put the trails into fine order.
Anyone interested using the shelter and the wood put up by these volunteers is asked to consider supporting the ski club by taking a 2017 membership. Memberships can be obtained in a variety of ways.
