Thomas Jordens, a well-known sports organizer and Madge Lake resident, has convinced seven men’s curling teams to join the Duck Mountain Super League. The teams are from Kamsack, Canora, Benito, Arran and Norquay.

“Eight-end games will be played Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.,” said Jordens. “We will have seven regular draws in the round-robin series, and the top four teams will enter play-offs set for January 5 in Kamsack.”

A total of $1,000 in prize money is up for grabs in the play-off series.

Super League curling action began in Kamsack November 10 when two very close games were played.

Fred Perepiolkin and Don Bowes were tied coming home when Bowes’s attempt to steal a point was foiled when his last rock ticked a guard.

The score between Randy Trofimenkoff and Jeremy Hrycenko was also even after seven ends. Having drawn the button and guarded his shot rock in the eighth, Trofimenkoff was awarded the victory when Hrycenko’s final stone narrowly missed its target.

Curling teams are awarded $50 per win in round-robin play.

The second draw in the Super League was to have been played in Kamsack on Tuesday when Trofimenkoff was to have faced Perepiolkin; Kineschuk versus Hrycenko, and Kolodziejski against Bowes. The Newell team was to have the night off.

Duck Mountain Super League results, also broadcast on GJGX radio, will appear in the Kamsack Times on a weekly basis.

Draws are set for November 24 and December 1 in Kamsack. The action then shifts to Norquay December 8; Canora, December 15, and Benito December 22. Fans are welcome. Admission is free. Food and beverages are available at all venues.

“Please come out and support your local sports facility.”

The Duck Mountain Super League is currently sponsored by Rawhides in Stenen, Nykolaishen Farms and Nykolaishen Farm Equipment and Cottenie and Gardner Inc. in Kamsack.
