Westside Discs from Finland make some fine discs, the Boatman, Swan and King among them, reviewed in this space last year.
Well the manufacturer from Northern Europe is back with new offerings this year, including the Warship.
When the Warship first arrived, back in March when the weather was so nice I managed four rounds in a month we generally think of as still winter in Saskatchewan, I wasn't sure how I'd like the disc.
In my hand the edge of the midrange was narrower on a slightly taller profiled disc than I normally like.
But you can never truly know how a disc will fly until you get out on the course. The Warship flies. And I mean flies.
I was getting tosses rivaling my driver of the day on its first day out.
Admittedly the consistency was a bit harder to achieve -- I think that goes back to the unfamiliar feel of the edge profile -- but on the good throws the Warship performed admirably.
The Warship is a disc which can be useful on longer mid range shots, or even off the tee on shorter baskets, especially for big throwers.
It is also generally a disc which holds to a straight line when you get it right.
Like all Westside discs the Warship has art linked to the Finnish national epic Kalevala, which is a nice touch aesthetically. The art was drawn by Arto Hoffrén.
While there are several excellent mid range choices out there, the Warship from Westside is an admirable addition to the field. It is a disc with some practice will be a steady performer on the course, and never amiss as a choice for inclusion in your game bag.
