Daniels' Discusses Golf Discs

Regular readers will recall I loved my initial experience with Vibram Golf Discs.

Regular readers will recall I loved my initial experience with Vibram Golf Discs. The first day out the trio of Ascent, Trak and Summit discs performed like a charm giving me one of my best rounds of the summer and earning a spot in my regular play bag (I carry about 15 discs on a normal round).

Well Vibram also produces other discs including the V.P. and the Ridge.

Both the V.P. and Ridge are available in Vibram's X-Link and X-Link Firm, the company's rubber based material providing grip and durability. The discs have a sort of sticky feel that gives you confidence in your grip on the days you sweat, or when early morning rounds put dew on the grass, and then of course your discs.

Now in general terms the V.P. and Ridge follow the earlier trio of discs in how they feel in-hand, and are certainly useful discs, although I prefer what I get from the aforementioned Ascent, Trak and Summit discs.

From the company website, "the V.P. was the introductory golf disc from Vibram. An over-stable putter that handles a head wind and gives a predictable, consistent fade (left for RHBH). The VP X-Link Firm is preferred by lob putters and hyzer putters."

As a lob putter, or hyzer putter, you are likely more advanced than the beginner disc golfer, so you might want to hold off on adding this one to the bag until you gain some experience.

Again from the website, "the Ridge excels at the finesse approach and can handle a power drive. It likes to hold the line and fly true. As a putter, the Ridge has a comfortable grip and a smooth, natural release. It works well as a hyzer putter and a straight-line putter."

The Ridge is a nice disc for the beginner because it offers versatility, being adequate off the tee, although not the best choice in most cases, and being solid the closer you get to the basket. The disc is best-suited, in my mind, as an approach and putt disc. The closer you get to the basket the better the Ridge likes it.

While the Ridge and V.P. would not be the first Vibram discs I would purchase, like the earlier trio, they are fine options coming from one of the top disc manufacturers in the business.
