'Dogs lose in final

The Yorkton Bulldogs played in the PGLL playoff tournament over the weekend and made it to the 'B' side final. Yorkton lost their first game, 10-7 against the Regina Rifles, beat the Saskatoon Steelers, 11-5 before falling in the 'B' final.

Against the Rifles, Jayden Dozorec and Paul Toth each scored twice and Justin Genaille had a goal and two assists but it wasn't enough as the 'Dogs lost 10-7. Mackenzie Shore and Cody Jarvis each had singles.

Against the Steelers, Yorkton had a five-goal second period and scored four in the third period to win, 11-5. Dozorec opened the scoring, Tyson Haas had a pair of goals while Genaille upped his total with four goals and Jarvis had two. Brennen Peleshytyk and Jerrason Fisher each had singles.

Steve Caswell replied with two goals in the loss for the Steelers, in a game which saw a total of 55 penalty calls dished out.

The team had two players finish with at least 10 points while eight others got on the scoresheet.

Fisher led all Bulldogs goalscorers with three goals and eight assists for 11 points and an average of 3.6 PPG.

Genaille was next with five goals and five assists for 10 points, while Shore, Haas, Jarvis, Dozorec, Blair Berthlette, Toth, Peleshytyk and Jackson Tetrault all racked up goals in the three games.

The Regina Riot (which included former YRHS student Dalton Bakke), went on to win the 2012 PGLL Junior Championship with a 7-5 win over the Rifles. Tristan Frei of the Rifles won the MVP (regular season) Award while Dylan Lefebvre of the champion Riot won the MVP (playoff) Award.
