Although the board and staff at the Duck Mountain Ski Hill had hoped to open the facility this winter by this week, the relatively mild season has convinced them to wait until Boxing Day to open.
This area always gets more snow than the surrounding area, Craig Brock, the hill’s manager, said last week. “Despite the warmth, the little dump we received last Thursday was an answer to our prayers.
“Even before last week’s snowfall, we had between six and seven inches on the ground,” he said. “We plan to delay the opening and save what snow there is until December 26.”
Until then, Brock said he and volunteer board members have been grooming and packing the snow on the runs.
Asked if he could anticipate the snow conditions for Boxing Day, Brock said that’s still two weeks away and anything could happen before then.
