Sacred Heart was the site of the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) Conference playoffs in the 4A division.

Games were played all day on Saturday, including Melville, Esterhazy, Kamsack and the SHHS Lady Saints.

Perry Enns, Saints coach said his team was vying for one of the top two finishes in the one-day event.

Melville claimed top spot. SHHS claimed second place, he said.

As a result, both teams will be heading to regional playoffs, scheduled for this weekend in Oxbow.

Enns told the media scrum after the last game of the day (SHHS vs. Kamsack) that "all round, we played a balanced game".

He did hint that their team play could have been better, noting they need to play with a little "more life and enthusiasm".

Mariel Kotyk and Brianna Ostafie led the way with their performances, Enns said.

Now that SHHS has qualified for regionals, one of the teams they could be looking at a rematch with is Melville. During the opening game of the Saturday tournament at SHHS, Enns' Saints lost their battle with Melville.

He acknowledged that losing to Melville isn't all that bad, based on their ability to play.

"Our biggest opponent is Melville. There's no sadness in losing to them," he said.

The SHHS senior girls volleyball team bench boss doesn't appear too nervous or worried about the Saints' chances playing outside of the Halo Dome, they simply just need to show up to play, he advises.

"If everyone plays well, (we have) as good a chance as any (body)."

Enns also pointed out that he's not worried about how everyone will play, volleyball players are usually at their best "at this time of year".

Also, in their favour, the SHHS senior girls squad is carrying 13 girls to Oxbow, Enns said.

"Defensively, we're (looking) pretty good," notes Enns.
