Canadian Wrestling’s Elite (CWE) will be back in Yorkton Wednesday, June 24 as the city will play host to the third stop in the CWE Fear Factor Tour.
Headlining the event will be former WWE superstar and three-time WWE Tag Team Champion “The Darewolf” Justin Gabriel, who will be taking on former Ring of Honor (ROH) World Champion “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin at Yorkdale Central School on June 24.
The high flying South African is one of a very select few that was able to leave WWE on his own terms, quitting the company in January of this year in order to bring his talents to smaller communities across the world, something he has said he enjoys more than wrestling in front of thousands of people. “I’m very excited to come to Yorkton. I love wrestling in front of smaller crowds, in smaller towns,” the 34-year-old Gabriel told Yorkton This Week on Monday morning. “For me personally, I love it. It feels more personal, you know? I can spend time with each and every fan. I can sign autographs for everybody and have a quick little chit-chat with everybody and it’s more personal.
“To me it’s way cooler. Of course being on the big stage in front of thousands of people has its benefits too, but this for me is where it’s at right now.”
Where it’s at right now is Yorkton and Gabriel promises that when he arrives in the city he will most definitely put on a show. “They (people of Yorkton) can just expect me at my very best. I don’t hold back and in fact I take more risks now than ever,” offered the former WWE tag team champion, who has nearly 17 years of experience under his belt. “Whether there are 10 people in the crowd or 10-thousand; I wrestle the same way and I don’t hold back ever like a lot of guys may do.
“When some people at WWE would keep their best stuff for WrestleMania I would wrestle the same every day. In fact I’ve been going harder in front of smaller crowds than I’ve ever been going before.”
He’ll have to go harder than ever on June 24 at the CWE Fear Factor Tour event, because his opponent “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin has been decimating everyone that has crossed his path.
However Elgin, who is pound-for-pound one of the most powerful wrestlers in the world, does not scare Gabriel one bit. “I’m really looking forward to the match. I like what he does, I respect him, but let’s see if he can keep up with me,” quipped the speedy South African. “I come from a way different league and I think I have what it takes to beat him but it should be interesting.”
