The 20th edition of the Richie Hall Red Cross Golf Classic was held over the weekend at Deer Park Municipal Golf Course. The new defensive co-ordinator for the Saskatchewan Roughriders brought with him most of his coaching staff to take part in the tournament, including Craig Danielson of the special teams and head coach Greg Marshall.
The golf tournament was a Texas Scramble shotgun style and included 33 teams of four players. In total, 135 took part, says Melanie Horton, Red Cross outreach co-ordinator.
"They started it 20 years ago for the Red Crossit kind of snowballed from there."
The 18-hole tournament went ahead as planned despite nasty weather conditions as rain took over before the tournament started.
Hall and his team took a quick break near the midway point, but none of them would let the weather get in their way of a good time.
"I'm going out there for more," said Hall during a quick sit-down talk with Yorkton This Week, before adding that "I'm not a golfer!"
It's the most frustrating thing I've ever done."
He said he was glad to be back for the tournament which has been running in town for its 20th season, never gets old, he said smiling.
"That's what it's all about. It shows a lot about Yorkton. I think it's something that everybody looks forward to."
Hall was the former head coach of the Eskimos. Also making the trip to Deer Park was Marshall, Dickenson, Brett Hopkins, Luke Mulinder, Carry Coke and two alumni players including George Reed and Vincent Donelson.
Saskatchewan's 2011 football season, on the field, starts June 1-3 for their rookie camp, says Hall.
On June 4, the veterans hold their camp and the season starts on July 3.
