Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action continued over the weekend as the Yorkton Harvest travelled to Mosaic Place to take on the Moose Jaw Generals.
The Generals took both games by a combined score of 13-2.
The first game resulted in a 4-0 final.
In both cases, the Generals exploded for the majority of their goals in the latter half of the game.
In the first game, played Saturday, also in Moose Jaw, the clubs played through two scoreless periods.
Things then got out of hand in the third frame when the Generals scored four unanswered goals, the first coming at the 17:35 mark, the final goal came with 1:55 remaining and was scored shorthanded.
Power play chances in the game were extremely limited with only six penalties handed out in total.
The opening two periods featured no goals and a total of three minor penalties.
The home team held an 8-7 advantage in terms of shots on goal in the first period.
Each team managed one less shot each in the second period, 7-6, also in Moose Jaw's favour.
The game's opening goal didn't come until three minutes into the third when Colton Schick scored his first of two of the game, Sean Whelan made it 2-0 and then scored again to make it 3-0 before Schick tallied shorthanded to round out the 4-0 win.
The third period was tame for penalties, two being called against the Harvest and one against the Generals.
Yorkton goaltender Teryn Phaneuf took the loss, stopping 23 of 27 shots. Grant Naherniak stopped all 19 shots he faced for the Generals.
The follow up contest featured more goals and more penalties as the Harvest aimed for a little revenge in game two.
This time, Moose Jaw blew it wide open in the first period, scoring four unanswered goals, wall spread out through the 20 minutes. They had 11 shots to Yorkton's seven. They followed up with another strong period in the second, scoring three goals on 10 shots and two more in the third in a 9-2 win.
Yorkton had two late goals in the third off the sticks of Tanner Lesann and Brayden Park. Moose Jaw went 4-10 on the power play, Yorkton was unsuccessful on their six attempts.
Spencer Bomboir took the loss in net for Yorkton, stopping 13 of 20 shots while Ryland Pashovitz got the win for the Generals.
Next up for the Harvest is another road match in Saskatoon on Thursday night.
