The Health Foundation's Annual Charity Road Race just keeps getting bigger and better.

"It was great," said Ross Fisher, Health Foundation executive director.

"It has grown each year. Now, in its sixth year, it's a very busy morning. There's hundreds of people on the ground and it's fun seeing all the big smiles; everybody is happy."

More than 50 volunteers kept the runners hydrated and the crowds fed.

The event, held Saturday, August 18, between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the area bordered by Darlington Street, Victoria Road, York Road and Gladstone Avenue, raised more than $30,000. The funds will be used toward buying new ultrasound equipment for the hospital.

Of the 209 registered runners the top fundraisers were: Lynelle Brehaut, $2,910; Jackelyn Kentel, $1,471; Dennis Fuchs, $1,445; Sydney Leik (12), $1,236; and Brad Surjik, $1,200.

One of the big changes for this year's race was the addition of an electronic timer called the Chrono Track Timing System. Fisher said it worked fine and that they will continue to use it in the future.

"We'll have to refine it a bit," he said.

"We learned some things, as you do when you use something for the first time, but it's good; it gives an accurate time."

That accuracy is reflected in the race winners' times:
