As a way to try to make up for the late start in this year’s season, Kamsack Minor Hockey Association is bringing a power skater and skills coach to work with the players.

Derek Serdachny of Yorkton will be conducting the training sessions on December 22 and 23, said Mike Eliuk, president of the Association.

As a left wing, Serdachny played from 2005 to 2009 with the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, and the next three years he was with the Manhattanville College team of Purchase, New York in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Eastern College Athletic Conference.

Serdachny’s sessions will be for all the players from novice to midget level, Eliuk said, adding that he has previously done power skating and skills sessions with minor teams during the Christmas period.

To work with a crew of three, Serdachny will spend 90 minutes on the ice on each of the two days with the hockey players, Eliuk said. Players may register for the sessions until December 22.

“Both boys are products of the Kamsack Minor Hockey Association,” Nichol said.

Another Kamsack connection is Braden Schneider who plays for the Prince Albert Mintos. He is the grandson of Ernie and Cathy Derworiz of Kamsack and the son of Carmela Schneider (Derworiz). Carmela is a member of the RCMP stationed at Prince Albert.

Braden was selected first round (12th overall) in the 2016 WHL Draft, having been drafted by the Brandon Wheat Kings.
