KCI junior badminton student wins silver at Districts

Two Kamsack Comprehensive Institute Grade 9 students came home from the District junior badminton competition in Yorkton last week with the silver medal in the girls doubles category.

            Two Kamsack Comprehensive Institute Grade 9 students came home from the District junior badminton competition in Yorkton last week with the silver medal in the girls doubles category.

            Hannah Pennell and Koryissa Woloshyn won the silver during the competition which was held at the Yorkton Regional and Sacred Heart high schools on May 3.

            Mila Carpenter Bloudoff, a Grade 8 student in junior girls singles, placed fourth in her category.

            The three badminton players had qualified to advance to the Districts after competing at the first round of pre-District competitions at Keeseekoose Chiefs Education Centre on April 25 and at the second round at Preeceville on April 28.

            The KCI junior badminton team of about 25 students, is coached by Amanda Carpenter and Ryan Stenko.

            Many students in the team are in Grade 7 so are still learning how to play, Carpenter said.
