KCI senior boys basketball team grew immensely during the season

The skill levels of the seven members of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute Spartan senior boys basketball team grew immensely during the season, said Cory Johnson, the coach.

The 2016-17 season concluded in early March, Johnson said, adding that this year’s team had a lot of talented boys who put in a lot of their own time during the season.

“We had our ups and downs but the lessons these boys learned while playing basketball will help them be successful later in life,” he said. “It was a pleasure getting to work with and coach these young men.

“Our younger players will learn from their losses and will come back stronger next year,” he said.

During the season, the team played in four tournaments: in Canora, Melville and Preeceville in January, and a home tournament in February.

Newton Cote, a member of the Spartans’ alumni, helped Johnson coach the team, which was comprised of Michael Chan, Paris Campre, Lionel Cote, Ian Martin, Nathan Bielecki, Colin Tulloch and Austin Hilderman.
