Kodiaks Claim Gold at Hoopla

Local team brings trophy home to Kenaston

The Kenaston Kodiaks 1A girls basketball team ventured to Regina last weekend in search of provincial championship gold, and that's exactly what they came home with from the annual Hoopla event, which took place from March 24-25.  The team first squared off against the Lake Lenore Lancers on Friday afternoon in Gym 1 at the University of Regina, besting them at a score of 62-42.  This propelled the Kodiaks to the 1A Girls Final, where they faced the Middle Lake Avengers in the same venue on Saturday night.  Despite a fierce, back and forth battle on the court, Kenaston was not going to be denied, and they came out the 2017 1A provincial champions at a score of 53-47, bringing first place medals back home with them.

The Kodiaks are coached by the daughter/father combination of Jenna Zdunich Fisher and Gene Zdunich, and comprised of players Jessica Zdunich, Calina Evans, Leah Libke, Alyssa Evashenko, Ann Ulmer, Eve Matovich, Rachael Matovich, Morgan Taylor, Kylee Evans, and Anne-Marie Collins.
