Lady Raiders wish boy Raiders good luck at Hoopla: Hayden

The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association basketball season is over for the YRHS senior girls team as a loss on Friday afternoon when they played the Melfort Comets.

Falling behind early, the Yorkton Regional High School Lady Raiders were able to fight back from a double-digit deficit and were able to narrow the gap to two points midway through the fourth quarter, says coach Tony Hayden.

"But some solid perimeter shooting by Melfort kept the Raiders at bay," Hayden observed.

Robyn Bendfeld once again led scorers with 14 points while Raelene Nagy had 16 rebounds and Morgan Sapora had five assists.

What turned out to be the Raiderettes' final game of the season saw them go up against Moose Jaw Central.

The Moose Jaw school's boys team was ranked number one in the province going into last weekend.

Against the Regional, a 24-point fourth quarter, led by Bendfeld, allowed the YRHS team to separate from what was a closely contested game, says Hayden.

For three quarters, it was close.

"The season has now concluded for the senior girls," Hayden signed off.

"They would like to wish their counterparts, the senior boys good luck at Hoopla March 23-24."
