The Sacred Heart Saints senior girls volleyball team traveled to Estevan to take part in a seven-team tournament on Sept. 30 and Oct 1. The team had a difficult schedule Friday night facing three of the top teams in the tournament, said coach Perry Enns.

"The team had some close matches but remained winless at the end of the evening."

On Saturday morning, SHHS faced Midale. The two teams were very evenly matched with each team winning a set but Sacred Heart won the match by one point. The Saints then went on to defeat Carlyle and Estevan en route to a fourth place round robin finish.

In the quarter-finals Sacred Heart again faced Midale. The Lady Saints carried the momentum of the round robin into this match taking an early lead and never looking back winning two straight 25-16 and 25-13.

SHHS advanced to the semi finals against Oxbow. Again, they took an early lead in the set but Oxbow battled back late in the set to win the first set 23-25. Sacred Heart was unable to bounce back in the second set falling victim to some very strong serving by the Oxbow team losing the second set 12-25.

"I was happy with our play on Saturday; we played very well as a team defensively.

Mariel Kotyk and Kristen Jonassen led the team offensively each scoring some huge spike kills from the power position. Katelyn Inglis played very well in the setting position running our offence and Morgan Shymanski turned in an amazing performance against Estevan dominating the entire match," explained Enns.
