Lakers, Clippers, Angels...and the Kings???

Now might be a good time to move to LA. Or at least live somewhere in southern California. Hollywood loves a good script. If they didn't have one before, God knows they've got one now.

Now might be a good time to move to LA.

Or at least live somewhere in southern California.

Hollywood loves a good script.

If they didn't have one before, God knows they've got one now.

There's no Johnny Depp or Nicolas Cage or Angelina Jolie or Eliza Dushku.

In this one, it's Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and a guy who's literally becoming a star with each passing day, Jonathan Quick.

Ticket sales at the Staples Centre for hockey are going through the roof.

The Staples Centre is the arena which houses the professional sports teams that play out of Los Angeles.

LA has already beaten the Canucks easily in round one, beat the Blues even easier in round two.

Next up will be the Phoenix Coyotes, the only team in the playoffs whose goaltending is as good as the Kings'.

After that, it could be either New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey or Washington.

The NHL Kings are quickly becoming the story of the hockey playoffs.

They beat up the Canucks in five games in the opening round.

As of Sunday afternoon, they completed their four-game sweep of the St. Louis Blues. Both of those clubs were ranked as the top two teams in the western conference.

Now there's proof that they are for real. The Kings of Los Angeles are now one series away from ruling the entire western conference.

Not the Blackhawks, Red Wings, or Canucks.

In their least-impressive win of this run, they got themselves out to a 2-1 first period lead on two beautiful goals.

Then they hung on for dear life as the Blues showed what it was that got them to the playoffs.

As it went, it didn't matter.

Game over.

Kings win.

Even the basketball stars and the soccer stars are showing their support for the hockey team. Kobe Bryant, Landon Donovan, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier all appeared on the scoreboard videos at the Staples Centre whipping up fan support. Bryant also showed up to a Kings game late in the season wearing a Kings jersey.

For the first time in 10 years, the Kings look like they may return to the Stanley Cup finals, something they have not done since Wayne Gretzky's time.

Despite the hockey playoff success, the hockey team is not the lead story in LA.

They've had a loyal fan base generating widespread civic passion. With their hockey success going, they are still up against the baseball and the basketball (times two if you count both the Lakers and the Clippers).

On the night of Game 3 against the Blues, here is what the Kings competed against in respect to television ratings: there was an unveiling of a new Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group that apparently includes Magic Johnson; Jared Weaver threw a no-hitter for the Angels when they played the Minnesota Twins; the Lakers and the Clippers were both in action that night too; and there was the sudden death of one of the best NFL linebackers of all time, Junior Seau.

Where did the Kings fit into all of this?

Win as many championships as the Lakers have in the past 10 years and then maybe?

There have been a lot more ticket requests at the Staples Centre lately from people who aren't normally seen around the hockey rink.

It's noisier in there than usual too.

Forward Dustin Penner has said the playoff success has forced him to take to his Twitter account because now he actually has something to tweet.

Team captain Dustin Brown has been a nightmare for everyone who they've played against, including hitting anything that moves.

Following Sunday's win at the Staples Centre over the Blues, LA is 8-1 in the playoffs.
