The opening ceremonies for the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer games were held last Sunday at Meadow Lake's Pine Ridge Ford Theatre in Lions Park to welcome 1900 athletes representing nine districts in the province.

Team Parkland Valley was led into the venue by banner carriers Kade Johnson representing golf and volleyball and Megan Farrell representing basketball and volleyball.

Athletes of Honor included local natives' national level kayaker Trista Neilly, as well as NHL Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles King Dwight King.

Despite a little bit of fresh rain, Kholton Shewchuk representing baseball and athletics proudly carried the Games flag. A full day of sunshine in beautiful Meadow Lake set the tone for a very successful first two days of competition for Team Parkland Valley. Locke Winslow and Enrico Bijman had the special honor of winning the first medal of the Games for Parkland Valley with a bronze in the K2 2000M and the swim club captured 14 medals in their swim events.
