It has been an up and down week for the Yorkton R. Miller's Midget 'AA' Cardinals. First the Cards hung around against the very dangerous Moose Mountain Mavericks only to fall 11-6 after a late inning collapse at home on Tuesday night.
Then the Cards were prepared for a pair of road games, one against the Regina Buffalos and another against the Mavericks, only to have the skies open up and put an end to any thoughts of taking the field.
However the Cards did get one of their three scheduled weekend games in as they walked into Weyburn with a purpose on Sunday and walked out with a 12-3 win; their third straight over the Beavers this season.
Caleb Bymak put forth a solid performance on the mound going 6.2 innings in which he allowed just three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine.
Bymak also had a strong day at the plate going 3-for-4 with three singles, a walk and four runs scored while picking up one RBI.
Another player who had a good game at the dish was Peyton Perepeluk, Perepeluk was 2-for-5 at the plate with a single, a double and an RBI while scoring one run. Two other Cardinals players, Tyson Black (1-for-2) and Adam Neibrandt (1-for-3), also had extra base hits with Black picking up a double and Neibrandt using his long stride to leg out a triple.
All but one midget Cardinal player registered a hit in the win that was truly a team effort; something that coach Stefan Bymak was quick to point out. "Everybody contributed. The defence was strong, a lot of guys made some good plays and everybody chipped in at the plate," mentioned Bymak. "We got good pitching and it was an all-around win.
"Those are the ones you really savour, the real team victories where everybody played a part."
Coach Bymak also mentioned that it was good for the team to get back into the win column after facing some tough competition recently and that being back at .500 is a very comfortable place to be with quite a bit of baseball left to be played.
Bested by Mavs
Earlier in the week the Yorkton R. Miller's Midget 'AA' Cardinals played host to the Moose Mountain Mavericks, dropping an 11-6 game to the visiting Mavs.
Mason Kelley was saddled with the loss after coming into the game in relief of starter Shawn Pasiechnik (4.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K). Kelley tossed 2.2 innings of relief in which he allowed six runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out five.
Luke Walters led the Cards offence in a losing cause going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while both Caleb Bymak (2-for-4, two RBI) and Mason Kelley (2-for-3, walk) also had two hit games.
Peyton Perepeluk had the other Yorkton RBI in a game where the offensive effort was good, but the defensive effort was a little bit lacking in desire. "At the end there the defence struggled a bit but I think as a team we're hitting and pitching well enough that, if we're making the defensive plays, we're in every game," offered coach Bymak, continuing, "However there were a few plays on the field that didn't get made that we'll make as the season goes on that probably cost us that game."

The next action for the Yorkton R. Miller's Cardinals (6-6-1, sixth) will be Sunday, June 29 when they host the Regina Buffalos (2-4, 14th) for a double header.
