Yorkton Minor Hockey Association will be getting ready to honour players coaches and its referees on April 17 at the Yorkton Curling Rink, says Gina Flett, president of Yorkton Minor Hockey.
The banquet will recognize both team and individual accomplishments from the 2011-12 hockey season.
Flett said the season stands out among others.
Numerous local hockey teams brought home both league and provincial championship titles, adds Flett.
Some won in the comfort of their own rink, others did it in the comfort of someone else's rink.
Flett said it was a good year because out of 25 teams, a large number did well representing the City against other cities and towns.
Eight teams won banners this year, she said. Five won their respective league banners and three were victorious at the provincial level.
"I was surprised at the provincials (winners)," says Flett. "It's not very often three provincial banners go to the same organization."
She said there are 25 regular hockey teams that play throughout the year and the banquet is a good way to recognize their accomplishments.
Coach Zawatsky's Pee Wee team won one of each.
Kelly Maddin, head coach of the Pee Wee 'A' team celebrated their second championship in a row.
"The banquet's always good."
Teams will be formally recognized on April 17 when the Association gathers for their annual formal banquet night.
The youngest teams present first, followed by dinner, then the oldest teams (Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget) conclude the night, says Flett. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets in advance can do so at the Yorkton Minor Hockey office located at the Kinsmen Arena on Prystai Way, says Flett.
Tickets are $12 and include dinner, she said.
