New league home needed

The leagues run on Monday nights from 7-10 p.m., and are open for anyone to drop in while they remain at the Legion.

Three leagues in Yorkton are looking for a new place to call home.

The soft-tip dart league, hard-tip dart league and pool league currently run out of the Alexander Ross branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, located on Broadway Street.

But due to financial struggles, the branch had to sell the building. They have until March 31 to find somewhere new.

Barry Whitehead is the president of the local branch.

“We’re looking for another place to maybe have a small lounge and a meeting room. Hopefully we can take some pool tables with us and some dart boards, and keep the leagues going on Monday nights,” Whitehead said.

“We want to keep a strong branch because we’re still involved with the poppy and stuff like that. But we like the leagues because they usually bring us a few dollars.”

Whitehead said they haven’t had success with finding a new venue that suits them just yet.

Curtis Malysh is involved with the hard-tip dart league, which has been running out of the Legion for about three years. He said the leagues have a few places in mind where they might relocate to, but they haven’t reached out yet.

“We were a little disappointed. [The Legion] graciously took us in when we had nowhere to play, but there’s not much we can do,” Malysh said. “But you never know. They might find a new place where we can go and play darts.”
