The Yorkton Cardinals dominance as South East Senior Baseball League came to an end last week.
The reigning three-year SESBL champions have been officially dethroned.
After squeaking past the Swan River Reds the week before, the Canora Supers got in the way, winning two of three games against the Cardinals, eliminating the defending SESBL champions.
The two teams opened in Canora last Tuesday with the Supers winning 6-2.
It was one bad inning that did them in, says Cardinals coach Terry Hawryluk.
Game two went last Wednesday at Jubilee Park, one of the tights games the Cardinals have played this year.
Scott Sharp was the last player to cross home plate, as the Cards won 3-2 to even the series at 1-1. They would play the deciding game immediately after.
Yorkton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, however Canora made the elimination a reality minutes later, pounding out five runs in the bottom of the first.
"That first inning should have been 1-1. Instead it was 5-1," points out Hawryluk.
He wasn't thrilled with the end result in the deciding game.
"You should be going into the next game with more momentumthey got five runswhy couldn't we?"
The Supers would play the game as the designated home team and their offence woke up right away as they pounded out 15 hits and starter Darcy Blommaert got credit for the win.
The Supers also erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first inning off four hits and three costly Cardinals' errors helped the Supers take the game and the series.
Yorkton had seven hits in the game but could not get the runs they needed. Jason Blommaert had a single and smashed a hit good for a triple late in the game. He also scored a run while Colby Parachoniak had an RBI single. Lance Hawryluk also recorded a triple in the top of the fourth inning while brother Jayden Hawryluk added a base hit and a run scored. Logan Parachoniak and Travis Schmidt also added a base hit apiece.
