Deer Park Municipal Golf Course hosted its annual Men's and Women's Club Championship over the weekend.

On the men's side, Brent Brown recaptured the title with a two-day score of 141. He shot under par both days.

As a result, he reclaims his parking spot at the golf club from Mel Oystrick, who was champion going into Saturday.

The tournament began on Saturday morning with various tee times and ended early Sunday afternoon.

For the second time in three years, Brown won the title of Club Champion. T.K. Ayers was the winner of the net portion of the Club Championship.

Brown said he was on top of things for the most part on both days, but noted that it was a combination of amazing weather and a well-kept golf course that really made the day.

"Allthough the turnout of competitors was down from what was hoped for (due to a few scheduling conflicts), there was no shortage of competitive golf played. The course is in immaculate shape, the weather co-operated and this allowed all golfers to enjoy (the) course that much more."

Brown, came in second in the recent Men's Open also at Deer Park, claimed the Club Championship with scores of 70 on Saturday followed up with a 71 on Sunday.

"With the course being in such good shape, it really rewarded good shot making. Being on the right side of the hole was imperative as the pins were put in a few greasy spots," he said.

"It was two totally different days for me," Brown explained via email to YTW.

"On Saturday, I came out firing on all cylinders and had a great round going only to stumble on a few holes coming home. On Sunday, I had a terrible start and then battled back the entire round."

He added that it was another good day for some of the other guys who came out to play, including Ayers. Brown said Ayers put together a good enough show to win the Net Club Championship.

"This event takes into consideration all golfers' handicaps and applies these towards their gross scores. Ayers shot a great round of 73 on Saturday and was able to hold it together on Sunday with a 79. Overall he was very happy with the way he played," insisted Brown.

He hinted that there are going to be some inexperienced guys giving the experienced guys all that they can handle, and it sounds like it could be fun, he quoted.

"We are lucky enough to have some very good young golfers around and it is fantastic to see them battling some of the old guards. Experience payed dividends for me today and that is what these young bombers need. I finally took some of my own advice to them and used a little more course management myself" says Brown.

"You really had to be patient, pick your spots to be aggressive and also know when par was a good score."
