The Ralph Hilderman rink of Togo won the Togo bonspiel held February 14 to 18 with 14 rinks participating.

With such mild weather that made the ice very heavy, it was a hard week for curling, said Amanda Burback, an organizer of the bonspiel. One curler claimed to see waves rippling behind the rocks.

To celebrate the school winter break, the community held free skating and shinny all week on the skating side of the rink, Burback said, explaining that the week promoted winter activities under the banner: Togo Winter Fun Week!

“So while we were curling, other members of the community were skating and playing shinny while enjoying fine dining at the rink kitchen,” she said.

Hilderman, curling with Rosalie Hilderman, Sherry Guenther and Ed Guenther, defeated the Mike Ruf rink to win the first event. Curling with Ruf were Krysta Ruf, Curtis Stone and Michael Fedoruk.

Placing third and fourth in the event were the Byron Petruk rink of Togo and the Randy Trofimenkoff rink of Kamsack.

The Robert Ferguson rink of Roblin placed first in the second event. Placing second, third and fourth in the event were: the Doug Radford rink of San Clara, the Chad Burback rink of Togo and the Zach Petruk rink of Togo.

The Vince Northrop rink of Norquay topped the third event. Placing second, third and fourth in the event were: the Jared Ruf rink of Togo, the Roman Malashewski rink of San Clara and the Lyle Dixon rink of Roblin.

Other teams participating were the Loretta Erhardt rink of Togo and the Greg Clark rink of Roblin.
