The Regina Baseball and Softball Indoor Training Centre/Academy is looking to help Yorkton and area baseball players reach the next level of their game by running baseball clinics from January through to spring.

Chris Untereiner, RBI manager, clinic coordinator and instructor, told Yorkton This Week that the clinic is open to anyone from age nine and up that is looking to improve their baseball abilities. “What we’re looking at for players is basically anyone from mosquito all the way up to midget,” said Untereiner, adding they’ll separate the age groups appropriately so that everyone can learn at a proper level. “We’ll break it down into two separate categories. We’ll have mosquito and peewee and then bantam and midget together for ten 90-minute sessions periodically from January through to the middle of April.”

Untereiner said that the clinic – the third one that RBI has ran in Yorkton – will focus on not one, but all baseball skills. “What we’ll do is we’ll have our pitching instructor out there. Then of course we’ll have our hitting instructor,” mentioned Untereiner, who is not only an instructor but a former minor pro baseball player as well, having played in Germany (Paderborn Untouchables) and Australia (East Torrens Red Sox). “I specialize in catching and corner infield and I’ve played a significant amount of outfield and middle infield so we’ll have the opportunity for the kids to pick out their primary and then secondary positions and we’ll give them the opportunity to improve at not only their primary position but where they would be secondary as well.”

According to Untereiner, all trainers that will be assisting with the clinic will be fully certified with several years experience coaching youth. “Each and every guy we send out there has got full university calibre instruction learning from some of the best coaches not only in Canada but from down in the States as well,” said Untereiner, adding  that there will not be a lack of instructors. “A major focus that we have here at RBI is we don’t want to have too many kids and not enough instructors.

“We’d rather send out too many guys to instruct than have not enough.”

The cost for the clinic will be 65 dollars per drop-in session or 60 dollars per session if purchased in bulk.

The clinic will run from January to April and will take place at the Gloria Hayden Centre. To register contact Untereiner at (306) 519-2121 or by email at [email protected].
