Jessica Lutz had a pretty good day at the East Central Districts qualifier a couple weeks back.

The Gr. 6 student at Yorkdale Central Public School shone through with a six-gold medal performance at Kinsmen Century Field and qualified easily for the ECD meet scheduled for May 24-25, also at Century Field.

Three of her gold medals represented recordbreaking performances.

She competed in the 100-metre, 200-metre, 400-metre, 1500-metre, long jump and the shot put.

Lutz broke records in the 100-m, 200-m and the high jump.

Shaun Beatty, principal at Yorkdale Central Public School said "that's a pretty big feat."

He said she also did well in the fall when she qualified for the provincial competition.

"She's a good student," he added.

According to her, the last one presented the most challenge.

"I would have to say the high jump," she told the newspaper.

When asked why it was harder, she responded that the bar "kept on going higher".

Her score for the high jump was 1.25 she said.

The Gr. 6 student of Yorkdale Central said she "likes to run" and insisted that she wants to be "just better" for the ECD meet at the end of May.

She told the paper that she was proud of her effort and didn't expect to finish with six first-place efforts.

Lutz says she practices at the Yorkton Regional High School track and also "at home on the farm".

In regards to the biggest meet of the school year, the ECD, her confidence is obviously in tact.

"I think I'm going to do well."

She's not even worried about what the competition might be like.

"I just worry about how I run."

Lutz qualified for each event that she placed first in at the qualifier but was told that she could only pick four events at the ECD to compete in.

She said those four will be the 100-m, the 200-m, the 1500-m, and the long jump
