RHEIN - There is an old adage in sport about it never being over, until it’s over.

That was certainly the case Monday evening in game one of the the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League finals.

The Rhein Rockets, defending league champions were hosting the Neudorf Posse in the first game of the best-of-three final, and the host side found themselves down 4-2 thanks largely to a pair of home runs by Jared Worth.

But, in the home half of the final inning the Rockets started to get to Posse pitcher Drew Hoehn.

With the bases loaded and no one out, Hoehn hit a batter to score a run making 4-3.

It was then the time for Jason Smalley to play hero for the Rockets, sending a sharp single over the second baseman to plate two runs for a 5-4 walk-off Rhein win.

Terry Peppler was the winning pitcher.

Game two of the series is set for Neudorf at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

A game three, if necessary would be in Rhein, but no date has been set.
