The McDonald's Atom hockey tournament over the weekend came down to Yorkton taking on itself to determine the winner on the 'B' side.

Yorkton Richardson beat Yorkton B and K Trucking in the game played at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

"Hats off to the B and K Trucking Team coached by Larry Weinheimer, for an excellent game against us in the 'B' Final," said Gord Ross, head coach of the Yorkton Richardson Terriers.

"A special thanks to Dean and Tricia Shyiak of McDonalds for sponsoring our division and tournament this year."

Ross said it was an interesting way to end the tournament considering that it didn't get off to the greatest start for his Richardson team.

"We started off with an 8-1 loss to a very good Naicam team," offered Ross. "Our kids tried their best."

Their second game saw them rebound for a 7-1 win in game two.

"That was probably one of the best games we played all year," offered Ross. He said he got an "awesome" showing from goaltender Noah Pfeifer, winning the tournament with a record of 3-1.

In the final, Yorkton Richardson had to make a comeback in order to lay claim to the title.

Coach Ross said he was happy with everyone's effort. He said Colby Ross finished the tournament with upwards of 14 points throughout the games and that the team played with only three defenceman for part of the tournament.

Coach Ross also wishes to thank the following.

"A special thanks to team sponsor Richardson Oilseed, Darrell Sobkow. A big thank you to Krista Gordon and Margo Gray, co-chairs for the tourney, and the entire tournament committee, for a job well done.

And a big thank you to the parents, grandparents and siblings who support us throughout the season." Ross' Terriers now face a small break in the schedule before their next scheduled match-up, scheduled for Dec. 17 at the Kinsmen Arena.
