The Sacred Heart Lady Saints took part in the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association 4A girls’ volleyball conferences last Saturday at Sacred Heart. In the first match of the day the Saints took on Moosomin. Sacred Heart took control of the match early to win 25 – 15 and 25 – 11. Strong Saints players in this game were Hannah Seymour and Megan Varga.
In the second match SHHS faced Esterhazy. The Lady Saints played perhaps their best match of the season against the Warriors. The Saints prevailed winning 25 – 23 and 29 – 27. Captain Lexi Guy led the Saints offence. Grade twelve J.J. Chogata who has been sidelined most of the season with a major injury made her return to the court, and helped set the Saints up for victory.
The Lady Saints continued to win in the semi final. Janeen Pellatt led the team in kills. Hannah Wyatt kept the offense firing from all positions to allow SHHS to win the match and advance into the conference championship match.
In the final the Lady Saints again faced Esterhazy. The match started strong with each team making some huge plays but the Saints could not sustain the day’s momentum and lost the first set 25-23. In the second set hopes of a comeback were not to be as Esterhazy seized control early and claimed the conference title winning 25-16 over the Lady Saints.
Coach Perry Enns said, “Overall I was very happy with the way the team played this weekend. It was some of the best volleyball we have played all season long so we are peaking at the right time.
Our goal was to advance to the regional playoffs next weekend which we did, but unfortunately we were not able to capture the conference title.”
