The Sacred Heart senior football team finished up the 2012 regular season with a 28-26 win on home field against the Esterhazy Warriors under the lights.

"It was awesome," proclaimed Trent Senger, head coach of the SHHS Saints, adding that he hopes it will become annual.

"The kids didn't give up," he said after watching his team's lead almost slip away after Esterhazy's Ryan Swayda connects for a 45-yard touchdown reception to bring the Warriors to within two points with .36 left on the clock.

"I knew they were going to be good.

You could see the way they started but they had to score two and they hadn't done that yet," says Senger of the Warrior's QB getting sacked on the conversion that would have tied the game at 28-28.

Esterhazy had plenty of chances to come out on top.

Sacred Heart's Brock Liebrecht had a pair of touchdown catches in the win while the Esterhazy defence stopped Sacred Heart on the Warrior one-yard line early in the first quarter.

NEXT UP

With an even record of 3-3, the Saints are heading into the post season and their next stop will be in Melville on Thursday, says Senger, a must-win situation.
