The Sacred Heart High School Saints football team put up a tough fight, but they were not able to come out on top of their first round playoff game against Fort Qu’Appelle over the weekend.
The final score of the game was 20-12.
The first half ended with a score of 20-6 against Sacred Heart. Coaches Scott Musqua and Chad Holinaty said the Saints gave up a few scoring opportunities in the first half.
“We’re really proud of how our guys finished at the half. It would have been easy to give up, but they battled through,” said offensive coordinator Chad Holinaty.
The second half of play turned out a little better for the Saints, as they played effective defense and put more numbers up on the board.
“We were able to hold them off in the second,” said Holinaty. “We just had a hard time getting consistent drives.”
This game ends the season for the Saints, but Holinaty and head coach Scott Musqua both agree that it was a strong season for their team.
“We’re happy with the way our guys performed. We did things a bit differently this year. We had a consistent turn out at practice, which is tough to get with other sports going on at our school,” said Musqua. “We did more systems than fundamentals. To go 4-1-1 it was pretty decent compared to the season before. Overall we’re proud of our guys.”
“In the end, it was a successful season and we got a lot of positives out of it,” said Holinaty.
The Saints will be losing approximately eight seniors next year, but the coaches are confident that their current grade ten and eleven players will step up and play well.
