The SHHS Saints football team continued their winning streak at home last Thursday, when they faced the Foam Lake Panthers. The game’s final score was 46-16.
The Saints had a bump in the road going into the game, because six of their starting players were injured and unable to play. Head coach Scott Musqua said now, going into their bye week, injured players will be able to rest up for the remaining games.
“Defensively, we were missing some key guys. And we definitely need that bye week to work on the fundamentals. Just going back to basic tackling and blocking because we were missing some of that, but we’ll always take a win,” said Musqua.
Musqua said their next three games were expected to be the toughest and most physical.
“It was nice to get through this week and to be able to put the ball through the air. We had a bit of trouble running it,” he said.
When it comes to the success of his team so far, Musqua said the credit goes to his athletes.
“We’ve got one of, in my opinion, the strongest athletes in the league in Nathan Cochrane. He’s a receiver, just a big strong kid. And our guy Zach Maddin who gets him the ball. But none of that happens without our linemen,” he said. “It really is just going back to the athletes that have come out this year.”
The Saints are currently sitting on a 3-0 record. With this week off, the Saints play their next game in in Esterhazy on Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.
