The SHHS girls soccer team ran a marathon in Moose Jaw over the weekend. Sort of.

"Playing five games in 2 days is like running a marathon. I was very impressed with the girls' 'never quit' attitude," says coach of the Sacred Heart girls soccer team, Jeanne Fetsch.

"Kaitlin Inglis and Kristen Jonassen played remarkable on defence all weekend-they were my weekend warriors," she added.

The team went on to win the 'B' side championship following a penalty kick shootout (SO).

In their second weekend tournament of the school year, Yorkton took a trip down to Moose Jaw where in five matches, they took home four wins.

They lost one game in the round robin to Leboldus of Regina. They finished the round robin at 2-1.

They beat Weyburn and Balgonie and Evan Hardy of Saskatoon.

Their final match of the tournament was the 'B' side title match that saw them play Prince Albert's St. Mary. Their lone loss of the tournament against Leboldus put them in the 'B' side but they were still determined to go out with a bang, says coach Jeanne Fetsch.

"After regulation time was tied 2-2 (both goals were scored by Rita Fetsch), this set up a very exciting end-penalty kicks. The Saints were victorious. Penalty kicks were scored by Kaylee Ford, Fetsch and Jonassen. The fifth shooter for the Saints didn't have to take her final shot."

Coach Fetsch said the team played well enough and it showed in the final standings.

"This was a strong team effort. This was the highest finish of all the 2A schools that competed at this tournament-playing against teams that are triple to quadruple our size."

This was our first time ever defeating Prince Albert's St. Mary."

SHHS won the opening game 2-1 over Weyburn, trailed in the first half 1-0, Fetsch and Jonassen scored in the second half.

In the second game, SHHS scored six to beat Balgonie, 6-2. Bryce Sherring tallied a hat trick, Fetsch scored twice and Morgan Shymanski scored a single.

In the team's lone loss to Leboldus, Jonassen scored the lone goal.

Fetsch scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Evan Hardy.
