Jennifer Ritchie, the coach and choreographer of the Saskatchewan Rush dance team, hosted a clinic in Yorkton on Sunday evening.
The clinic introduced pom dancing to Yorkton, as Ritchie shared her knowledge and experience with young dancers and cheerleaders from Yorkton and surrounding areas.
Ritchie attended Sacred Heart for her high school years. Since then, she’s gained cheer and dance experience from a variety of positions. She went on to coach the Saskatchewan Roughriders dancers for three seasons. Next, she went to Saskatoon where she coached a high school dance team for seven seasons. She’s also been teaching dance classes throughout the years, and was able to start her own dance studio two years ago. Last year was the first year for the Rush dance team, and with their second year underway the team has grown from 16 to 24 dancers.
The clinic on Sunday was full of energy, action and laughs as Ritchie went through the basics of pom dancing. Yorkton does not have an official pom team yet, but YRHS has hopes of starting one in the future.
