Saturday's loss 'hurt' Harvest: Odgers

The Yorkton Harvest have lost 26 games so far this season. Apparently none of those losses hurt as much as the one on Saturday night.

With the Swift Current Legionnaires in town at the Farrell Agencies Arena, and Yorkton holding on to a 2-0 lead, a fluke goal, according to coach Jeff Odgers, got the Legionnaires back in the game and then the wheels completely fell off the Harvest so-called bus.

Three more unanswered goals by Swift Current gave them a 4-2 victory and dropped Yorkton's overall record to 8-25.

The team now sits in second last place with 20 points in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. The Notre Dame Hounds are six points ahead and Regina Pat Canadians are eight points up on the Harvest.

"This one hurts," said Odgers Saturday in the team room. It was the first of back-to-back losses by identical 4-2 scores.

"They're a good team," he admitted, noting that once they smell blood, they never back down.

"They showed (tonight) why they are moving up the standings."

Both teams played well enough in the game's opening period, suggests the game sheet. Swift Current held a slim 13-10 shots advantage through one period, but the Harvest scored twice and took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room.

Kody Thue and Lynnden Pastachak scored to give the Harvest the early lead. Dakota Odgers, Nicholas Pouliot and Levi Morin tallied assists.

Swift Current scored three unanswered goals in the second period and added a fourth in the third period.

Tim Vanstone scored twice while Zac Mackay and Daylan Gatzke rounded out the Legionnaire scoring.

On Sunday, also a 4-2 Legionnaire win, they got on the scoreboard first with a pair of goals, the first coming on a man advantage, the second goal came with their own man in the penalty box, as Mackay scored his second goal of the weekend.

Eric Saleski scored his first of two goals in that game.

Pastachak got one back for Yorkton on the power play from Odgers and Pouliot to make it 2-1 Swift Current.

Kyler Beckett scored at 2:15 to up the lead to 3-1 before Brayden Park rounded out the Yorkton scoring at 1:08 of the second period. Pastachak drew the lone assist.

Swift Current's Saleski closed the game scoring at 8:23 of the third period to round out a 4-2 win.

Yorkton outshot Swift Current 34-28.

Both teams tallied once on the power play.
