The Preeceville School and Sturgis Composite High School senior boys teams co-hosted an eight-team volleyball tournament on October 3.

The teams were divided into two pools from which winning teams would move on to the finals. In Pool A (hosted at the Preeceville School) Preeceville took on Norquay, Yorkton Regional and Langenburg. In Pool B (hosted in Sturgis) Sturgis took on Kamsack, Kahkewistahaw and Carlyle.

Sturgis won the opportunity to continue on to the finals. Sturgis was defeated by Yorkton Regional in the A final. Preeceville defeated Carlyle to win the Bside.

“The Sturgis team may have a short bench but the members play hard and are very determined,” said Kipp Bayer, coach. “We placed second in the Langenburg tournament and third in the Kahkewistahaw tournament. We have travelled locally to play regular games with local teams in Preeceville and Churchbridge.”

Sturgis is to play Norquay on October 25 and Carlyle on October 30 and 31.

The Preeceville players have been work hard on developing technical skills, said Coach Cary Franklin. The team will be playing in a tournament in Melville on October 16-17 and another in Norquay on October 23-24.

“We will be hosting the provincials on November 27-28 and expect players from across the province,” said Franklin.

He said the team will require a number of volunteers to help put on the large event.
