This year the Sun’s Out Guns Out event featured a fur and feather machine, shown on the right, for shooters to test their luck with a variety of discs that represent birds and rabbits.

The second annual Sun’s Out Guns Out event, held by the Yorkton Wildlife Federation (YWF), took place on Saturday, June 17 at the trap and skeet shoot club.

Cameron Nash, the chairperson of Sun’s Out Guns Out, explained that they have a few goals in mind when holding this event.

“Our main goal is raising awareness and money for wildlife habitat. All the funds raised today go towards purchasing land for preservation of wildlife habitat,” explained Nash.

“We’re also trying to get new shooters involved in the sport. We have instructors on site who will take someone that’s never held a shotgun, and get them shooting at some balloons filled with cornstarch,” he added.

“We’re getting youth involved, and just raising awareness for wildlife habitat,” said Nash.

The YWF hosts a number of fundraisers throughout the year. The money they raise gets put into a pot, and when they have enough raised, they’ll be able to purchase land for preservation of wildlife.

Nash explained that once they buy land, it could be used by anyone in the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.
