The Sacred Heart senior girls basketball team headed to Langenberg to take part in a five-team tournament on the first weekend of March.

Sacred Heart played Rocanville on Friday night and won 38-32. Top scorers were Shayla Merriam with 10 points, Morgan Shymanski with eight points and Riana Skikewich and Kaitie Inglis getting six points each. The following day saw Sacred Heart roll over Esterhazy, 78-20. Emily Kruger led the way with 12 points, Hanna Hansen and Meagan Yagelniski each picked up 10 points. Skikewich and Katie Inglis each added eight. In the second game on Saturday, the Sacred Heart took their first loss, falling 51-35 against Canora. Top scorers were Connor Rosluk and Inglis each with eight points.

The last game of the tournament saw Sacred Heart go up against the host Langenberg Screaming Eagles in what was a well played game by both teams, says Sacred Heart coach Chris Hansen. "Tied at 24 point at the half the teams battled back and forth with Sacred Heart winning 49 -41 in the end."

Skikewich had 12 points, Merriam had 10 points, added Hansen.

"So with a 3-1 record the Saints claimed first place and Langenberg second," Hansen explained.

The team was scheduled to participate in conference play last weekend.
