The Sacred Heart boys' soccer team combined for a total of 20 goals during three matches played between Friday afternoon and Saturday.

Sacred Heart opened the tournament with a 6-nil victory over Weyburn.

Game two put them up against Luther College. Sacred Heart knocked them off, 8-2.

That win qualified them for the 'A' side final. They played Swift Current.

They won their second match in a row by the score of 8-2.

SHHS bench boss Alfredo Bermudez made no bones about what he saw in the tournament overall.

"I would have liked a little more competition. I kind of expected this."

He said that SHHS played without two of their regulars for the entire tourney. By the end of the day, they were missing three, he said.

Despite absences, SHHS was still loaded all over the field, says Bermudez.

That includes Preston Liebrecht, Robert Okeny and Anthony Fetsch, to name a few, adds Bermudez.

He also noted that the tournament was a preparation for two other tournaments on the SHSAA schedule.

Bermudez said SHHS will be hosting the boys' provincial championships the weekend before Hallowe'en (Oct. 28-29).

The Saints soccer team also plans to play in a regional playoff, he said.

It will be a qualifier for the provincials. Bermudez noted that the team's record sits at 8-1, so things seem to be looking in their favour.

The two high school clubs (SHHS and the YRHS) were scheduled to take on each other last night on the Sacred Heart field, indicates Bermudez.

Results of that affair were not available in time for press.
When they play, they will have the sponsorship of Ruff's Furniture and Sundown Eavestroughing and Exteriors, says Bermudez. See team photo on Page B15 in this week's sports section.
