SHHS Saints looking good in the early going

The Sacred Heart girls soccer team competed in annual Moose Jaw Summerfest over the weekend. They played five games and won three, losing only to last year's 3A provincial champs and Regina Campbell.

The Sacred Heart girls soccer team competed in annual Moose Jaw Summerfest over the weekend. They played five games and won three, losing only to last year's 3A provincial champs and Regina Campbell.

They had victories over Regina Luther, Moose Jaw Peacock, and Moose Jaw Vanier.

In the opening game, Sacred Heart defeated Moose Jaw Peacock 3- 0. Rita Fetsch scored all three goals and Raquel Hackman recorded the shut out. Sacred Heart then played a very powerful Prince Albert Carlton team who defeated them 4-1. Fetsch scored the goal for the Saints.

To complete the round robin portion of the tournament, Sacred Heart defeated Regina Luther 6-0. Raquel Hackman had the shut out. Scoring for the Saints were Morgan Shymanski with a pair, Kaylee Ford also had two. Singles were added by Fetsch and Hailey Richards.

Following this round robin, the Saints were placed in a B pool where they first met Regina Campbell who defeated them 4-0. The Saints finished up the tournament, playing for seventh overall in the 16-team tournament.

They finished with a very well played game defeating Moose Jaw Vanier 3-0. Hackman continued her very strong play and recorded her third shut out. Shymanski scored a single and Fetsch added a pair to complete the scoring. This game saw excellent defense especially from the pair of Katie Woitas and Samantha Okrainec.

To warm up for this tournament, the Saints played a couple of exhibition games this week. They defeated Yorkton Regional 4-1 on Monday. Fetsch had a pair, while Ford and Emily Kruger added singles. The Saints also played Lemberg on Thursday and defeated them 6 - 0. Jenna Sahulka had a strong game and scored a pair. Fetsch recorded a hat trick and Shymanski had a single.

The Saints have had a good start to their season and sit so far with a record of 5-2.

Next action for the team will be this Friday and Saturday at their home tournament. Yorkton Regional will also be playing in this tournament.
