SHHS sends five to provs

Five members of the Sacred Heart Cross Country team attended provincials in Middle Lake, Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 15. These girls included: Brooke Mentanko, Emily Kruger, Rita Fetsch, Dakota Chippley-Mitchell and Brooke Morgan.

Sacred Heart was among the many competing schools over the weekend at the SHSAA provincial cross country meet. It was held at Middle Lake, near Humboldt. Both Yorkton high schools competed. Above, representing Sacred Heart in Melville on Oct. 6, from left: Dakota Chippley-Mitchell, bronze, junior girls, Brooke Mentanko, gold, senior girls, Rita Fetsch, gold, junior girls. As a school, the members of Sacred Heart finished in fourth place in overall standings.


Five members of the Sacred Heart Cross Country team attended provincials in Middle Lake, Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 15.

These girls included: Brooke Mentanko, Emily Kruger, Rita Fetsch, Dakota Chippley-Mitchell and Brooke Morgan. Coming off gold medals at districts in Melville on Oct. 6 (Thursday), were Brooke Mentanko in senior girls and Rita Fetsch in junior girls.

The two girls ran well at the provincial meet and Mentanko placed fifth overall behind four strong Regina and Saskatoon runners out of a field of 110 senior girls.

Fetsch finished just out of medal position in fourth out of a field of 75 runners. In addition, the Sacred Heart team placed fourth overall in the 3A school size category.

Coach Rachel Sterzuk said: "All of the team ran well on Saturday. I was especially pleased with how well Rita Fetsch and Brooke Mentanko ran against some very strong girls in their age classes."
