The Sacred Heart senior girls' volleyball team competed in a 13-team tournament in Weyburn this past weekend.

The Lady Saints began the tournament defeating Meadow Lake in two straight 25-17 and 25-16. After a short break, SHHS was scheduled to play three matches in a row.

Lumsden was first, the Saints won game one 25 - 21, but came up short in game two losing 22 - 25. The second match was against a very strong host team from Weyburn. Game one went to Weyburn 20 - 25, but the Lady Saints rallied in game two before losing 24 - 26. In the last match, SHHS defeated Kelvington 25 - 15 and 25 - 21.

On Saturday morning, the Lady Saints faced Melville. In game one, SHHS had the lead but let it slip away losing 26-28.

Game two was another see-saw battle that should have gone to Sacred Heart but Melville prevailed 24 - 26. In the final round robin match, SHHS faced Prince Albert St. Mary's losing game one 15 - 25, but the Lady Saints battled back and shocked St. Mary's winning 25 - 21.

SHHS finished the tournament in fourth place in their pool and earned a bye into the consolation semi final. In the semi final, SHHS faced Meadow Lake winning two straight 26 - 24 and 25 - 17 to advance to the gold medal match against Lumsden.

The lady Saints used their strong passing and a balanced attack to defeat Lumsden two straight 25 - 23 and 25 - 19.

Sacred Heart coach Perry Enns says "The competition level at this tournament was very strong, the strongest tournament of the season." "We are not a tall team, and we faced some giants but our girls fought for every point regardless of who was on the other side of the net. Skylar German really stepped up her play this weekend. She was even more dominate at the net then usual leading the team in blocks and spike kills but her defensive play was fantastic. Skylar made some amazing saves while in the back row"

On Nov 12-13 the Lady Saints will travel back to Weyburn for the regional playoffs.
