The Sacred Heart boys soccer team are regional 2A champions after defeating Humboldt and Lake Lenore in the championships on Saturday in Humboldt.
This advances the Saints to the 2A Provincial Championships hosted by Se Se Wa Hum school in Prince Albert next weekend.
In both games of the regionals, the Saints dominated the play. They defeated Humboldt 7-1 in the semi-finals and defeated Lake Lenore 7-0 in the final.
Goalie Michael Dobrowolski recorded the shutout in the final.
Defensively, the team played great, only allowing one goal against them. Coach Jeanne Fetsch gave recognition to Brady Gelowitz and Stephen Oleskiw, who played strong in the center defense position.
Sacred Heart was able to maintain possession of the ball for most of the game, thanks in large part to their midfielders Austin Thomas, Matthew and Nathan Cochrane and Dawson Malinowski.
Nick Fetsch came away with nine goals in the two games. Other goals came from Austin Thomas with two, Jarius Pellatt, Vincent Receno and Nathan Cochrane, who also added four assists to his name.
Coach Fetsch said the Saints are hitting their stride at the right time, as they’ll be facing many strong teams in Prince Albert competing for the provincial title.
