Skate Yorkton is getting set for an exciting weekend this weekend.

They will be presenting their annual ice carnival, which this year, is dubbed 'Fairytales and Dreams.

Skate club coach Susan Nagy said she is looking forward to a show which will let the skaters of the local club show off what they have learned this year.

It will feature a dimmed out Farrell Agencies Arena, a stage set up in the west end of the arena where performers will enter the ice surface and skate to a variety of theme songs and attempt to dazzle the crowd with a series of tricks and routines.

It will include lambs, lady bugs, penguins and dwarfs as costumes which the kids will be dressed in, says Nagy.

She adds that it isn't an easy task to get the performers ready for their year-end show.

"The whole executive pulls together (for this)," she said with an exhausted smile, noting that the amount of help she needs/gets from parents is a thankless part of the job.

Part of the attraction that she says hopes to help get spectators out, is the coming of Olympians Cody Hay and Anabelle Langois.

The latter of which was a participant of the CBC's Battle of the Blades.

They will also be putting on a clinic the day before the carnival.

Langois retired from competitive skating in the spring of 2010 following the Vancouver Olympic Games. She and Hay won the Canadian Pairs title two years earlier but both missed all of 2009 due to a serious ankle injury.

They went on to place ninth overall on the Canadian Olympic team. Langois has finished in the top 10 at the world championships six times.

SEMINAR

Both Langois and Hay will be putting on a seminar in conjunction with the Fairytales and Dreams carnival the day before the show.

Nagy hopes those interested will get their tickets early enough as space is extremely limited, she said.

Registration is $45 per individual
