There was an awful lot of soccer going on at the Sacred Heart High School field Saturday afternoon.

According to Yorkton United FC (YUFC), there are going to be two more dates this year.

"It's the first of three this year," explains Mike Jakubiec of the YUFC.

"The whole club participates," he said, and that includes the men's team, women's team as well as the younger ages.

"The festivals have been set up to give the players involved in the YUFC's community leagues a chance to play some extra games during the short spring/summer season and have some fun," adds YUFC coach Chad Grodzinski.

All of the age groups took to the fields at Sacred Heart to participate in the mini games, he added.

"Sacred Heart was great to let (us) use the field and all the pitches," adds Jakubiec.

Technical director of YUFC Andy Wyatt was also happy with the day's proceedings, says Grodzinski.

There were several others that chipped in in some way, shape or form on the day, he said.

"Also to be thanked was YUFC director Adam Fetsch for setting up a concession and also sponsorship director Thor Berge and his team of volunteersthat along with Terry Ortynsky and Royal Ford (for holding) a Drive One 4UR Community fundraiser, which goes to benefit the Club.

Jakubiec said all YUFC teams have started their season except for the men's team who are slated to start on May 28. He said they are still accepting applicants. Registration is ongoing. Players may register either online at www.yorktonunitedfc.ca. Registrations can also be made at the Canada Soccer Shop.

It is located at 23 Broadway St. East. Anyone wishing more information is asked to call 786-5425.
