Soccer team ready for provincials

The Yorkton United U16 girls' soccer team is preparing for the upcoming provincial championships July 20-22 in Regina. The team has attended three tournaments so far as tune ups and has brought home two gold medals and one bronze medal.

The Yorkton United U16 girls' soccer team is preparing for the upcoming provincial championships July 20-22 in Regina.

The team has attended three tournaments so far as tune ups and has brought home two gold medals and one bronze medal. Going back to the last indoor season, they are on a 26-game unbeaten streak. Their record so far includes:

The Regina Challenge (June 8-10) where they beat the Regina REU Freedom 4-1, the Regina UCT Angels 5-0 and the Regina AC Tigres 1-0. In the final, they beat the Tigres again, by a count of 3-0. At the Saskatoon Eastside Grevers event (June 15-17), they scored five en route to a 5-0 win over the Saskatoon Eastside.

Rita Fetsch had four goals and Kristen Jonassen and Allison Kruger shared the shutout.

Then they played to a pair of draws; 2-2 against the Saskatoon Hollandia and 2-2 against the Regina REU. Fetsch scored all four goals.

In the bronze medal game against Humboldt, Fetsch, Jonassen, Morgan Shymanski and Bailey Pelchat combined for seven goals in a 7-0 win.

And at the Summerfest tournament (July 6-8), they piled up three straight wins over Regina teams followed by a 4-0 win over Swift Current, as Edie Schramm collected three shutouts of 7-0, 10-0 and 4-0 in the final against Swift Current.
